Chris Mapp

Head Chef, The Tickled Trout, Barlow

Working with food is a family thing for Chris, he grew up in a pub as a baby and his father was the founder of the famous Tom Cobleigh pubs. He has since put years of experience in some of the top kitchens in the country under his belt, including working alongside Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing at Petrus, Knightsbridge, The Greenhouse in Mayfair and co-owned No6 in Padstow with his good friend Paul Ainsworth who now has a Michelin star there. It’s always been his dream to return to his roots up North and create his own independent dining pub right back where it all began for his father. For him this is in the idyllic village of Barlow where he grew up and the Tickled Trout which was once a local watering hole was reincarnated in summer 2014.

The restaurant prides itself on the provenance of its food, with a host of local suppliers covering everything from dairy in Tupton to meat from Ashover. Chris even feeds the local deer on his family farm with vegetable peelings from the restaurant’s kitchen, so it’s not just his customers that get a great taste of local produce!

We’re looking forward to seeing new, creative food from Chris during this competition, and we’re sure we won’t be disappointed!
