Jon Mahoney

Executive Chef, The Florentine

Jon started working part time in kitchens at the age of 15. A product of our very own Sheffield College catering department, Jon was inspired and taught by some excellent lectures including Mick Burke, Len Unwin & Paul Guttridge who have frequented our competition over the years as industry professional judges.

Earlier in his career Jon worked for a number of Sheffield’s most influential chefs including David Baldwin, Cary Brown and Christian Kent before heading over the Pennines to Manchester to work for Rhodes & Co. It was during his time there that he met and worked alongside our current Sheff’s Kitchen champion Seymour Millington. Distant friends, Jon is hoping to go all the way to the final and cook in the kitchen with Seymour again, only this time as his friendly rival.

Currently Executive Chef for a pub group of 15 sites, which includes The Florentine in Fulwood, Jon and his team offer wood fired pizzas and steaks cooked over charcoal alongside modern British classics.

When asked why Jon wanted to take part in the competition this year, he replied “It’s quite simple really, I’m excited to have the opportunity to help Whirlow Hall Farm Trust as it is an amazing local charity doing some really important work with young people; and a little bit of chef competitiveness is always fun… watch out Seymour I’m coming for your crown!”
